WATERTOWN- Watertown (8-10) scored two runs in the first inning to defeat visiting Newark (8-11) by a score of 2-1 in the first game of the doubleheader. Jake Jenkins (Pacific) tossed five scoreless innings to pick up the win (1-1) for the Rams while Eddie Emes (PSU Greater Allegheny) took the loss (1-2) for the Pilots. Watertown advanced into first place in the PGCBL West Division.

Watertown jumped out to an early 2-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning. Joe Moroney (Kansas) led off the inning with a triple into the left-center field gap and came around to score on a sacrifice fly by Dominic Lopez (Texas A&M-Corpus Christi).

The two sides remained scoreless until the top of the seventh. Going into the inning, the Pilots trailed two to zero and were down to their final three outs. Taylor Hinshaw (Georgia College) led off the inning with a single. Pilot catcher Coleman Lukas (Pomona-Pitzer) followed with a single of his own. Following a sacrifice bunt by Sam Fox (Pomona-Pitzer), Jeff Edwards (Valparaiso) drove in the lone run of the game for the Pilots with a sacrifice fly to centerfield. Cody Culp (Bellevue) then struck out pinch-hitter Scott Matthews (Washington, MD) to end the game.

Watertown starter Jake Jenkins hurled five innings allowing no runs and only allowed five hits to pick up the win. Cody Culp pitched the ninth to record his second save of the season. Newark starter Eddie Emes tossed five innings allowing just two runs.

Joe Moroney finished 1-for-2 with a walk and a triple for Watertown. Bryce Greager (Chandler-Gilbert) posted a 2-for-3 with a double for the Rams. Jacob Boylan (Kansas) and Dominic Lopez both recorded RBIs for the home team.

Max Rosing (Cortland State) finished 2-for-3 for Newark. The aforementioned Jeff Edwards posted a 1-for-2 line with a walk and a sacrifice bunt. Coleman Lukas also went 1-for-2 for the Pilots.

Game two will feature Kevin Klaess (Cypress) pitching for the Rams against Drew Hasler (Valparaiso) for the Pilots.
