WATERTOWN, NY- The Glens Falls Golden Eagles (5-8) scored two runs in the top of the tenth inning to a take an 8-6 lead, a lead they would hold on to and defeat the Watertown Rams (6-7). Rick Morales (Siena) picked up the win for the Golden Eagles while Ben Wylly (San Diego) took the loss for Watertown.
With two outs in the inning, Rams reliever Ben Wylly (San Diego) walked two Glens Falls batters to put runners at first and second. Danny Olvieri (Triton) hit a ground ball to second base that Rams second baseman Santino Alteri (Alvernia) was unable to field cleanly. After recovering the ball, Alteri's throw to first base went wide of Dominic Lopez (Texas A&M-Corpus Christi) and allowed the two runners to score.
The Rams rallied in the bottom of the tenth but were unable to get the tying run across as Kevin Cowan (William Patterson) struck out Willi Martin (Mount Olive) to end the ballgame. Lopez had singled to left earlier in the inning to score Brandon Mikulka (Creighton) and cut the deficit in half.
Watertown trailed by two runs going into the bottom of the ninth but plated two against Rick Morales (Siena) to tie the game. Glens Falls had previously scored two runs in the eighth inning to take a 6-4 lead. JQ Folena (Cabrillo) doubled home a run and Ryan Dodge (Nova Southeastern-Fall 2014) plated another with a single.
Glens Falls scored four runs in the top of the sixth to take a 4-3 lead. An error, a Garret Bernardo (Anderson) RBI single, a wild pitch and a fielder's choice plated the runs. Watertown scored lone runs in the first three innings to go ahead 3-0.
Watertown starter Javi Villanueva went five plus innings, allowing three runs (none earned) on five hits in his no-decision. Chas Lacko (LIU-Brooklyn) went four innings for Glens Falls, allowing three runs (all earned) while walking five and striking out four in his no-decision.
Matt Diorio (Central Florida) led the Rams offense with a 3-for-4 night. Joe Ogren (Bucknell) went 2-for-5 with two RBI and James Bonds (San Diego) hit a solo home run.
Garrett Bernardo finished 3-for-4 on the night and Brennan Price (Felician) and Ryan Dodge each had two hits for Glens Falls. Watertown left fifteen runners on base, compared to the nine that Glens Falls did.
The Rams travel to Elmira tomorrow to take on the Pioneers at Dunn Field. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 p.m. Their next home game is Monday, June 23 against Newark and is a double-header. Glens Falls has Friday off but plays host to the Albany Dutchmen on Saturday. First pitch at East Field is scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
