Weekend Recap

The Black Hawks topped two of the leading four teams from the USHL Eastern Conference. Friday night, Waterloo gave up a 3-1 second period lead but scored three unanswered goals to claim a 6-3 victory against the Dubuque Fighting Saints. The following evening, the Hawks scored four in the first and held on through subsequent penalty-filled periods for a 4-2 decision versus the Indiana Ice. Taylor Cammarata paced Waterloo with three goals during the weekend, while Ryan Papa notched four assists. The six goals versus the Saints are the most by the Hawks this season and since another 6-3 win against Dubuque last season on April 6th.

Assist Meister and Ice Breaker

Ryan Papa notched three assists against the Dubuque Fighting Saints. It was the first three assist game by a Black Hawk this season. Tyson Fulton had been the most recent Waterloo player to do it on April 6th against Dubuque last season, one of three Hawks to enjoy the achievement in 2010-2011. Then Joe Rehkamp contributed a key goal and assist Saturday. Rehkamp also had two goals against the Ice in a 4-3 decision on October 29th, giving him four points in three games versus Indiana this season.

Winning More than the Hockey Game

While the crowds in attendance last weekend left Young Arena happy, a couple of fans in particular were especially excited about what happened at the rink. Larry Miller and Les Speare each won the $50 second prize playing Veridian Shuffle Hockey, sending a puck from one faceoff dot diagonally to the opposite faceoff circle. A fan could win an even bigger prize on Thanksgiving; the Silver Eagle chuck-a-puck jackpot is now $400.

Power Play Pickups

After a second look, the Black Hawks were credited with two power play goals on Saturday. Taylor Cammarata's goal exactly two minutes after a penalty called on Matthew Krug was ruled to have been on special teams after initially being tabbed five-on-five. It was the second power play goal of the game after Tony Cameranesi snapped an 0-for-27 skid on an advantage earlier in the period.

The First Thanksgiving

The Black Hawks' initial Thanksgiving game was played on November 26, 1964. Waterloo defeated the St. Paul Steers 5-1 behind four goals from Emery Ruelle. Pat Casey notched three assists in his Hawks debut.
