Around the League

Gamblers Streak to Five ...Two more wins for the Green Bay Gamblers kept them at the top of the Eastern Conference standings and the best overall record in the USHL. The Gamblers are in the midst of a five-game winning streak, outscoring their opponents 25-7 during that span. Four of their wins have come on the road and they lead the USHL with nine road wins this season (9-1-0). They continue to lead the USHL in penalty killing (91.1%) after they turned away all eight opponent power plays in two weekend victories and have not given up a goal in the last 11 shorthanded situations. Defenseman Jordan Schmaltz scored a goal, the game-winner, during his debut with the Gamblers on Friday. Forward Kyle Novak dished out two assists in the 4-2 win against Team USA on Friday, his third straight multi-point game. He is riding a five-game point streak in which he has collected 10 points (3g, 7a) and a plus-nine rating. Nolan LaPorte is also on a five-game point streak with nine points (3g, 6a) and a plus-10 rating. Defenseman Markus Lauridsen scored the game-winner in the 6-0 win vs. Muskegon on Saturday. Both of his goals this season have been game-winners.

Phantoms Win 10th ...The Youngstown Phantoms won both of their weekend contests and became just one of four USHL teams to reach the 10-win milestone this season. Sam Anas scored the game-winner in Friday's 4-1 victory over Chicago which extended his goal streak to three games (4g). Forward J.T. Stenglein has scored a goal in four straight games, including the overtime-winner in Saturday's 3-2 victory against Cedar Rapids. The Phantoms have won all three of their games this season that have gone past regulation. Austin Cangelosi scored a goal in both victories to give him 10 goals in 10 games this season.

Home Hawks ...The Waterloo Black Hawks won two home contests during the weekend and have now won three straight at Young Arena. They scored a season high six goals, including four in the second period, during Friday's 6-3 win over Dubuque. Taylor Cammarata tallied two goals, his second consecutive two-goal game. He added a goal in Saturday's 4-2 victory over Indiana and has scored six goals over his last five games. Waterloo also scored four goals during the first period of Saturday's victory, including a power play tally by Tony Cameranesi, ending a 0-for-27 drought on the man-advantage for the Hawks.

Back in the Win Column ...The Tri-City Storm picked up a 4-1 victory against Team USA on Saturday to snap an eight-game losing streak. Goaltender Pheonix Copley made 24 saves to earn his fourth win of the season. Brad Schierhorn scored the game-winner, his second game-deciding goal of the season, while Thomas Nykopp tallied his third goal over his last four games. Over the weekend, the Storm turned away all 13 combined power play opportunities by their opponents.

Rolling on the Road ...The Des Moines Buccaneers won their third consecutive road game when they scored a season high in goals during Friday's 6-4 victory at Omaha. Kevin Irwin tallied two goals, including the game-winner, giving him four goals over a span of three games. Defenseman Zack Rall dished out one assist and posted a game high plus-five rating which equals a USHL game high this season.

Trio of Shutouts ...Muskegon Lumberjacks goaltender John Keeney stopped a season high 37 shots to record his first shutout of the season in the 2-0 win against Tri-City on Friday. Lincoln Stars netminder Jackson Teichroeb made 24 saves for his first shutout this season in Saturday's 2-0 victory at Fargo. Adam Wilcox recorded his second shutout in his last four starts when he made 19 saves for the Green Bay Gamblers in the 6-0 win against Muskegon on Saturday. Wilcox is currently riding a streak of 134:32 minutes of game action without allowing a goal.

Extra Stuff ...Both of the weekend game for the Cedar Rapids RoughRiders went past regulation. Three of their last four games have been decided in overtime or the shootout and they lead the USHL with five games that have gone past regulation this season. The Riders are 1-4 in those games. Gerald Mayhew scored his 10th goal of the season for Cedar Rapids in Saturday's 3-2 overtime loss to Youngstown while Andrew Oglevie netted his first career USHL goal.

Notes ...The last three games for the Lancers have had a 6-4 final score, which has included two 6-4 wins against Sioux City...Forward Todd Skirving scored two goals for the Sioux Falls Stampede in the 4-2 win against Des Moines on Saturday and now has four goals over his last four games...Sioux City Musketeers forward Brad Robbins scored two goals on Saturday, including a shorthanded tally, and is now riding a five-game point streak...Dubuque Fighting Saints defensemen Mike Matheson and Matthew Caito scored goals just 51 seconds apart in the second period of Saturday's 4-2 win against Chicago. It was the first USHL goal for Caito...Indiana Ice forward Daniil Tarasov scored in regulation and converted in the shootout of Saturday's 3-2 victory against Cedar Rapids...Austin Farley scored two goals for the Fargo Force in their 5-2 win against Lincoln on Friday. He has already scored more goals (9g) through 16 games this season than he did last season (7g) in 33 regular season games. Bryn Chyzyk also netted two goals for Fargo on Friday...Luke Johnson scored a goal for the Lincoln Stars in Saturday's 2-0 win at Fargo. It was his third straight game with a goal.
