Pride of the American Side

The United States' entry into the World Junior A Challenge, led by Black Hawks Head Coach P.K. O'Handley, is off to a strong start in British Columbia. Saturday, the squad picked up an exhibition win against Canada East before defeating Canada West 6-1 Monday night in their first meaningful game of the competition. Fargo's Jimmy Mullin recorded a hat trick in the performance. The U.S. meets Sweden Wednesday in their final game of pool play, with elimination contests beginning Thursday.

Cracking the Top Ten

Luke Hannon was officially credited with four points in two games last weekend. All were assists, and three were recorded during power play situations. The Hawks' top scorer now has eleven points this season and is currently tied for seventh in league scoring.

In Favor of Five-on-Three

The Black Hawks cashed in during a five-on-three two-man advantage against the Chicago Steel on Saturday. Andrew Panzarella scored Waterloo's fourth goal of the game during the opportunity. The tally makes Waterloo 4/7 in five-on-three chances this season. The Black Hawks also killed off a brief two-man advantage for the Steel, improving Waterloo to 5/5 when doubly shorthanded during 2010-2011.

Determined Opposition

Waterloo's recent run of success will be thoroughly tested by both opponents the Black Hawks face this weekend. The Green Bay Gamblers are tied for the top spot in the USHL Eastern Division, with a 6-3-2 record which includes an overtime victory versus Waterloo. The Des Moines Buccaneers have played the fewest games in league action, but own a 5-1-2 mark and a four-game winning streak.
