Waterloo Black Hawks News Release
February By The Numbers
J.T. Brown had a dazzling February, tallying a team-leading 14 points in ten games. Brown, Jordan Samuels-Thomas and Eriah Hayes each scored five goals last month. Craig Smith paced the team with a +3 rating. Of Waterloo's 37 goals, 17 were scored on the power play. Parker Milner earned three wins in net during February, and the Hawks were 4-6-0 as a team. It was the first calendar month since February of 2006 that Waterloo has finished below .500.
Hat Tricks Against
Indiana's Mike Cichy recorded a hat trick versus Waterloo in the first period Friday. It was the fifth time the Hawks have allowed three goals to an individual opponent. The others were Josh Balch (DM, 10/24), Andrew Miller (Chi, 12/31), Mike Forney (GB, 1/3), and Rocco Carzo (DM, 2/13). Waterloo won three of those five games. Each Eastern Division opponent has a hat trick against the Hawks this season except Cedar Rapids.
Fans Flock to Black Hawks Games
Black Hawks fans provided a record-tying 17th sellout of the season at Friday's game in Young Arena. There were 2,992 people in attendance, pushing the season total to 74,870. Only 15,499 more people are needed to eclipse last year's record of 90,368, an average of 2,584 over the last six home games.
Handicapping the Race
With the Chicago Steel just three points behind the Black Hawks, the battle for the USHL Eastern Division's final playoff spots could be exciting. Assuming the Hawks and Steel do not both overtake another team, here are some key factors. Waterloo holds an extra game in-hand, which they will play in Sioux Falls on March 17th. The Hawks play the Steel twice: on March 21st at Young Arena and March 31st in Chicago. Other teams that could play important roles in the race are Des Moines (two games each against the Hawks and Steel), Indiana, and Fargo (both of these teams play Chicago twice and Waterloo once).
