The Waterloo Black Hawks seek to overcome the positive trends enjoyed by their weekend opponents this Friday and Saturday. The Hawks enter games against the Sioux Falls Stampede and Omaha Lancers riding momentum from two wins last weekend on the road against the Tri-City Storm. Waterloo gets back to action Friday in Sioux Falls. If the Hawks' success is to continue, they will have to topple a Stampede team which owns a 5-2-0 home record. No USHL club currently has more home victories. Meanwhile, Omaha - Saturday's opponent at Young Arena - is riding a streak of six consecutive games with at least one standings point. The Lancers are 4-0-2 in their last half dozen, climbing into a first place tie with the Lincoln Stars atop the Western Conference during the span.

Returning Reinforcements

Over the weekend, defenseman Mason Anderson and forward Liam Pecararo made their 2015/16 debuts. Anderson appeared on both Friday and Saturday during games against the Tri-City Storm. The 20-year-old from Alaska recorded one assist and was -1. Pecararo opened his third USHL season Saturday, also recording an assist. In 91 USHL regular season contests since joining the Hawks in November 2012, Pecararo is now just three assists from 50 and has accumulated 75 total points.

OT Outcome

The Black Hawks' 3-2 win Thursday ended a stretch of seven consecutive trips to overtime without a victory. Waterloo's most recent previous overtime win during regular season competition was on April 5, 2014 against the Cedar Rapids RoughRiders, 3-2 in a shootout. That matchup capped the 2013/14 campaign and occurred on the night the Hawks won the Anderson Cup. With Thursday's win, the Hawks are now 1-1 in OT this year.

Golovkovs Goes Back-to-Back

Forward Georgs Golovkovs recorded his first United States Hockey League goal on Thursday. He followed up with another on Friday evening. Added to five assists he accumulated in the early weeks of the schedule, Golovkovs now has seven points and is tied for third in team scoring. He also owns a +5 plus/minus differential, which ties him with Ronnie Hein for the best mark among Waterloo forwards.

Weekly Recap

Although the Hawks had claimed just one of their last six meetings against the Tri-City Storm played in Kearney, Nebraska, Waterloo won there twice last week, 3-2 in overtime Thursday and 4-1 on Friday. Sam Rossini scored the overtime winner and the Hawks rallied from a 2-0 deficit in the opener. Waterloo never trailed in the rematch and broke open a 1-0 game with three mid-second period goals.
