Washington Stealth Signs Bucktooth, Zywicki Placed on PUP List

January 25, 2012 - National Lacrosse League (NLL)
Washington Stealth News Release

Everett, Wash. - The Washington Stealth made two roster moves today as the team prepares for its upcoming game against the Edmonton Rush on Saturday night. The Stealth placed veteran forward Jeff Zywicki on the physically unable to perform list and signed forward Brett Bucktooth to the active roster. The Stealth has started the 2012 season with a pair of losses, and face the Edmonton Rush at Comcast Arena on Saturday night.

Bucktooth, a right-handed forward from Nedrow, NY, was named to the Eastern Division All-Star team as a member of the Buffalo Bandits a season ago. He played each of his first five NLL seasons in Buffalo after being drafted by the Bandits with the third overall pick in the 2006 NLL Entry Draft. He won an LL Championship as a member of the Bandits in 2007. Over the previous two seasons, the former Syracuse University star tallied 58 points (28g, 30a) and 108 loose balls in 31 regular season games.

"It's an exciting change for me to play out west and with a new group of teammates," said Bucktooth. "Having been to back-to-back championship games says a lot about the organization and the players. I can't wait to get on the floor and get back to work."

When asked what Stealth fans can expect from the most recent addition to the team he replied, "I am going to do whatever is needed to get the Stealth another NLL title. I hope to score some goals, play some defense and grab some loose balls.

A four-year letterman at Syracuse, Bucktooth was a second team All-American in 2006 as a senior after recording 37 goals and 18 assists. He won an NCAA Division I National Championship with the Orange in 2004.

Bucktooth is also a member of the Iroquois Nationals Indoor and Field teams, earning a silver medal with the indoor squad at the 2011 World Indoor Lacrosse Championships last summer. He plays his professional field lacrosse for the Hamilton Nationals on Major League Lacrosse.

"We feel Brett will add a different dimension to our offense and are excited to have him wearing a Stealth uniform," said Stealth General manager Doug Locker. "He has accomplished a great deal in his lacrosse career and brings with him a level of experience that is hard to find. We believe he is going to be a great addition moving forward."

Zywicki lands on the physically unable to perform list due to a lingering injury suffered last summer playing for the New Westminster Salmonbellies. He played in the Stealth's first two regular season games of 2012, and has two goals and an assist.

In other recent roster news for the Stealth, defensemen Eric Martin was moved to the physically unable to perform list and transition player Nenad Gajic was activated last week.

The Stealth will face the Edmonton Rush on Saturday, January 28 at 7:15pm at the Comcast Arena at Everett. It's "Players for Prevention" night with a benefit for the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention. Tickets start at just $7 and are on sale now by calling 877-MY-75-TIX or at www.stealthlax.com.
