Washington Army National Guard to Make Donation to Wounded Warrior Project

Prior to the Spokane Chiefs game on Friday, February 22nd the Washington Army National Guard will present a check of $3,000 to The Wounded Warrior Project (WWP) representing a portion of the proceeds raised in a silent auction of special military themed jerseys wore earlier in the season.

Spokane resident and Wounded Warrior Dan Curran will be on hand to accept the check from Sergeant First Class Michael Whitacre of the Washington Army National Guard.

Curran, 27, joined the Army in 2006 and served as a combat medic at Fort Hood. He was deployed in Iraq from 2007-2009, attached to an armored cavalry troop. After leaving the army in 2010, Dan became actively involved in Wounded Warrior Project here in Spokane and around the Inland Northwest.

In Spokane, WWP and local veterans have partnered with the WWP staff in Seattle to coordinate and run events such as rock climbing, white water rafting, snow shoeing, mountain hiking, 5K runs and all veteran teams for events such as Bloomsday and Dirty Dash. Last spring the Spokane WWP were one of the first groups of wounded warriors in the country to manage and coach their own co-ed softball team consisting of warriors and family members.
