Warshaw's Red Card Upheld by Appeals Committee

April 29, 2016 - United Soccer League Championship (USL)
Penn FC News Release

Harrisburg, PA - The Appeals Committee announced today that they have upheld the red card issued to City Islanders FC captain Bobby Warshaw in the 83rd minute of the team's 2-1 win over Orlando City B.

Warshaw was issued a red card for a dangerous play when he attempted a bicycle kick and connected with Orlando defender Keegan Smith. Smith was assisted by medical staff after the incident but returned to the match.

According to USL rules, red cards carry an automatic one-match suspension. The Islanders chose to appeal the red card to the league. The Appeals Committee, a panel of three arbiters: one from the U.S. Soccer Federation, one from Canada Soccer and one from the Professional Referee Organization then reviewed the call along with evidence presented by the team before making their decision.

The City Islanders will travel to Rochester this weekend without Warshaw to take on longtime Eastern Conference rival at Sahlen's Stadium at 6:05 p.m. on Saturday, April 30.

City will return home following their trip to New York on Saturday, May 7 at 7 p.m. to take on FC Cincinnati for the first time in their history and again on May 9 at 7 p.m. to face Charleston. Cincinnati is one of six new teams that joined the USL this year. Reserve your seat today!
