
Warriors Get Bounce Back Win over Canton

SANTA CRUZ, Calif. - The Santa Cruz Warriors defeated the Canton Charge 98-83 on Saturday night at Kaiser Permanente Arena, splitting the weekend series 1-1.
Mychel Thompson paced the Warriors with a 9 of 13 shooting effort on the night, tallying 20 points. Elliot Williams notched a double-double, recording 17 points, 12 assists, and 5 rebounds. James Michael McAdoo also recorded a double-double, with 15 points and 10 rebounds. Taylor Griffin and Milos Milisavljevic added 16 and 12, respectively. Ognjen Kuzmic, on assignment from the Golden State Warriors, added 6 points and 8 rebounds.
Arinze Onuaku led the Charge, posting his sixth consecutive double-double, with 20 points and 16 rebounds on 6-of-10 shooting effort. Jorge Gutierrez scored 17 points and grabbed 6 rebounds, while Brandon Paul and Justin Johnson added 19 apiece.
Santa Cruz came out sharpshooting, hitting a Canton opponent season-high 57% from the field and assisting on 36 of their 43 field goals. The Charge could not find an answer in tonight's game, hitting a season low of 38% from the field.
Santa Cruz out-rebounded Canton (41-40), had more fast break points (19-8), had more assists (36-16), and had more blocked shots (3-0). Canton had more points in the paint (44-36), had more second chance points (17-6), and had fewer turnovers (12-18).
The two teams will meet again in the inaugural NBA Development League Showcase Cup in Santa Cruz. The Warriors will be the number three seed in the eight-team tournament beginning on January 15th, while Canton earned the sixth seed.
The Santa Cruz Warriors will go on the road for a four-game away trip, beginning with the Fort Wayne Mad Ants at 4:00 p.m. Pacific on January 6th.
