Grand Rapids Drive News Release
Sioux Falls, SD. - Jan. 4 - The Sioux Falls Skyforce (9-9) avenged two losses in the first two games of a three-game series with the Grand Rapids Drive (10-7), winning the third game at home by a score of 106-89.
Sioux Falls dominated the second quarter defensively, outscoring the Drive 28-15 and going to halftime with a 59-41 lead. Grand Rapids fought back with a 27-20 third quarter, but the deficit proved to be too steep and the home team pulled away again.
Tyler Johnson had a big day to lead the Skyforce, scoring 25 points and connecting on 4-of-6 three-point attempts. Fuquan Edwin and Henry Walker added 22 and 20 points off the bench, respectively.
Shabazz Napier, the Miami Heat's 2014 first-round pick playing on assignment, struggled to get going offensively with just eight points, but still chipped in seven rebounds and seven assists.
Spencer Dinwiddie, a 2014 NBA second-round draft pick on assignment from the Detroit Pistons, racked up 22 points, four rebounds and five assists. Adonis Thomas just missed leading the team in scoring for the fourth consecutive game, scoring 20 points.
For the first time in the series, the Skyforce were able to stifle the Drive's potent three-point attack, as they managed just 8-of-30 shooting from deep for 27 percent, and 39 percent overall from the field, the team's first time shooting under 40 percent in two weeks.
The Central Division-leading Drive play next at home against the Iowa Energy on January 7. The Skyforce have a bit of a longer break, as their next action comes against the Idaho Stampede in Sioux Falls on January 9.
