SANTA CRUZ, Calif. - The Santa Cruz Warriors fell to the Bakersfield Jam 115-109 Sunday night.
Santa Cruz was paced by Nemanja Nedovic, currently on assignment from the Golden State Warriors, who scored 25 points and dished out a team-high five assists. Cameron Jones scored in double figures for the 44th time this season, finishing with 24 points. Lance Goulbourne registered his fifth double-double in his last six games, scoring 14 points and grabbing a game-high 12 rebounds. Daniel Nwaelele scored 17 points, while Kevin Kotzur chipped in with 12 points off the bench.
Bakersfield was led by Ike Diogu, who scored a game-high 32 points and had 11 boards. Jerel McNeal also logged a double-double with 20 points and a game-high 13 assists, while Terrel Harris scored 14 and had three steals.
The Jam raced out to an 11-point lead in the first quarter, but the Warriors went on a 9-0 run to trim the deficit to two. Santa Cruz took the lead on a Lance Goulbourne layup with 7:09 left in the second quarter, and the Warriors took a one-point advantage into intermission. Bakersfield scored first in the third quarter on a Terrel Harris three-pointer to go ahead 62-60 and the Jam never relinquished the lead. Bakersfield extended its advantage to double-digits with 3:48 remaining in the fourth quarter behind an 8-0 run and, while Santa Cruz came within three with 45.9 seconds left, it didn't prove enough and the Jam held on for the victory.
Santa Cruz held the advantage on rebounds (42-41) and blocks (4-3). Bakersfield outshot the Warriors (53.4%-47.5%), had more assists (23-22) and committed fewer turnovers (11-14). Each team had seven steals.
