Warriors Defeat Privateers to Take Sole Possession of First Place in FHL

Sunday afternoon at the Anowarakowa arena on Cornwall Island featured the battle for first in the Federal Hockey League. The afternoon brought a rivalry match between the 1000 Islands Privateers and the home team Akwesasne Warriors. The fans who joined the Warriors left happy as the Warriors rode a fired Joshua Desmarais 1 goal and 2 assists performance and a solid defense late to a 5-2 victory and the win put Akwesasne atop the Federal Hockey League standings.

The Warriors came out of the gate firing and were determined to win this hockey game from the first puck drop. Kyle Lagace opened up the scoring in the first period, Josh Desmarais and Pat Deraspe got the assists. Josh Desmarais scored to make it 2-0 to finish off the first.

Pat Deraspe opened up the scoring in the second period with shorthanded goal assisted by Martin Beaulne. Miguel Delisle scored his 16th goal of season to put the Warriors up 4-0 with assists going to Carter Trevisani and Darick Ste Marie.

Carter Trevisani scored his 10th goal of the season in the third period to put the Warriors up 5-0. Carter Trevisani leads all defenseman in the FHL with 39 points in 29 games. The Privateers scored two goals to finish out the scoring in this game. Warriors take sole possession of first place in the FHL standings and have one game on hand against the Privateers.

Akwesasne Warriors will be at home on Thursday January 13th @ 7:35pm.
