Warriors Lose to Danville 6-5 in a Shootout

Massena NY: Akwesasne Warriors with 3 home games this week, played their first against the Danville Dashers with 287 fans attending the game that was played in Massena. The fans were treated to a holiday treat as they saw the Dashers pick up their first win of the year with a shootout victory. The high point for the Warriors was that Dan Tessier returned to play his first game of the season.

Nicholas Corbeil opened the scoring early for the Warriors at 1:47 making the game 1-0. Their second goal was created by Martine Beauline feeding Mathieu Benoit the puck allowing him to score his first FHL goal on a breakaway giving the Warriors a 2-goal lead. Danville didn't allow the Warriors to dominant the first period by scoring 2 goals of their own. Ray Trembley scored an unassisted goal at 15:29 and Matt Ferris tied the game at 19:00

With 6:56 in the second period, the game tied at 2 Ahmed Mahfouz and Chris Affinati dropped the gloves giving them a 5min fighting major each. The Dashers Kyle Heffernan rallied together with his team and scored 32 seconds later giving them a 3-2 lead. Jeremy Van Hoof, Pierre Dagenais and Martine Beaulne would score the next 3 goals for the Warriors giving them the 5-3 lead. Damion Croux would fight back and score for the Dashers at 13:36 making it 5-4 to make it a 1 goal lead for the Warriors to finish the second.

The third period remained scoreless until 14:44 with Igor Batora tying the game 5-5 with the assist going to Daniel Amesbury. Danville fighting hard for their first win against the Warriors and with 3 seconds remaining Justin Barr missed a chance to take their first FHL win for Danville.

Warriors begin the five minutes of overtime with one man down, Mathieu Raby began play in the penalty box for 58 second left of his 2 min penalty for cross checking in the end of the third. Dasher goaltender Breton Lindoff robbed Carter Trevisani with a chance to win the game with 1:27 left in the over time. Trevisani again with 3 seconds left hit the poll missing the chance to finish off the Dashers. The game then would be decided in a shootout.

Danville pulled off their first ever win in the FHL against the defending Federal Hockey League champions as Ky Moje managed to score the only goal in the shootout to secure the win for Danville.
