Warriors Advance to Finals with 10-4 Win over Privateers

ALEXANDRIA BAY, NY - The Akwesasne Warriors completed the North Division Finals with a dominant 10-4 victory over the 1000 Islands Privateers tonight before 1,321 at the Bonnie Castle Rec Center. After dropping Game 1 at home, the Warriors dominated the two road games and now advance to the FHL Finals.

The Warriors jumped out to a 4-0 edge in the first period. Miguel Delisle, Dan Tessier, Ahmed Mahfouz, and Darick Ste. Marie tallied in the first. Alex Goupil scored the team's first postseason goal at home from Ryan Pearson. 25 seconds after Kyle Lagace made it 5-1, Goupil scored again as Tyler Fernandez and Will Laporte. Martin Beaulne and Tessier scored twice to extend the Akwesasne lead to 8-2, which included a goalie switch for the Privateers. After Tessier completed the hat trick, Evan Romeo and Ahmed Mahfouz dropped the gloves. Ryan Pearson scored his fifth of the playoffs for the Privateers on a shorthanded breakaway sprung by Justin Levac but Terry Watt tallied on the same power play just before the second period horn. Beaulne scored Akwesasne's tenth of the game, and a late power play gave Goupil the hat trick in what he claims is his final professional game. Fernandez and Pearson earned the assists. Goupil received hearty cheers from the crowd and a standing ovation after the final buzzer.
