Santa Cruz Warriors News Release

SANTA CRUZ, Calif. - The Santa Cruz Warriors have acquired the returning player rights to forward Richard Howell from Idaho in a four-team trade that sends guard William Buford and Santa Cruz's original fourth-round draft pick in the 2014 NBA D-League Draft to the Canton Charge.

Howell, 23, appeared in 20 games with the Idaho Stampede this season, averaging 18.0 points and 10.6 rebounds in 34.6 minutes per contest. The 6-8, 257-pound forward began the season in training camp with the Portland Trail Blazers, where he appeared in one preseason contest. A graduate of North Carolina State, Howell averaged 9.2 points and 8.0 rebounds with the Wolfpack, where he was named to the 2013 All-ACC First Team his senior year. Howell is currently a member of the Talk N Text Tropang Texters in the top basketball league in the Philippines.

Buford, 24, appeared in 32 games with the Santa Cruz Warriors, averaging 9.1 points and 3.3 rebounds in 22.1 minutes per contest.

To complete the deal, Canton has sent Los Angeles' original second round pick in the 2014 NBA D-League Draft to the Delaware 87ers, who have sent guard Vander Blue to the Idaho Stampede. The deal is contingent on players passing physicals.
