Columbus Wardogs News Release
Columbus, GA - The Columbus Wardogs have added six more players to the training camp roster including former XFL defensive back Terrell Sutton, af2 veteran fullback Johnny Frost, and returning Wardogs receivers Terence Samuel and Adrian Cockfield.
Sutton (6'0, 195) was one of the final players cut before the 1998 NFL season by the Dallas Cowboys. He led Mississippi to the Indoor Professional Football League (IPFL) championship in 2000 before signing with the Green Bay Packers, but again was cut just before the season. Sutton recorded two interceptions as a starting defensive back for the XFL San Francisco Demons in 2001. He even earned "Player of the Week" honors by returning a punt 47-yards for a touchdown in a game versus Birmingham. For the past two seasons, Sutton has been one of the top defensive backs in af2, leading the Florida Firecats to the Arena Cup in 2002. Sutton is reunited with Wardogs head coach John Fourcade, his coach from the IPFL and his first season in Florida.
Another former Firecat that is reuniting with Fourcade is veteran fullback Johnny Frost (6'2, 250). Considered one of the top fullbacks/linebackers in the league, Frost started 32 games for Florida over the past three seasons, rushing for 220 yards and 12 touchdowns in 2002 when the Firecats reached the Arena Cup.
Two players familiar to Columbus fans are receivers Terence Samuel and Adrian Cockfield. Samuel (6'0, 185) caught 32 passes for 354 yards and 11 touchdowns last year. His most memorable play was an 8-yard TD catch as time expired against Birmingham. He followed that by running in a 2-point conversion to complete the win.
Cockfield (5'10, 175) recorded a solid rookie season with 77 catches for 724 yards and 6 touchdowns, including a game-tying touchdown reception against Memphis as time expired in the season opener. Columbus then won that game by kicking the PAT.
The Wardogs have also signed rookies Tyuan Duncan and Chris Naumann. Wide receiver/linebacker Duncan (6'1, 205) is from Albany, GA and spent the 2002 season on Augusta's practice squad, but did not see game action. Naumann (pronounced "Newman") is a wide receiver/defensive back from Louisiana that was signed after a recent Wardogs tryout camp.
