HFX Wanderers FC News Release
Halifax, N.S. - HFX Wanderers FC are pleased to announce the signing of athletic young Canadian defender Daniel Kinumbe.
The 20-year-old left back is a former Montreal Impact academy player who made his pro debut with Ottawa Fury in the USL.
Kinumbe also rose through the ranks on the national stage, earning selections to Team Canada at the U 20 and U 23 levels.
"I feel good about the club, I saw a few games last season and I really loved the energy of the crowd in Halifax," Kinumbe said.
Wanderers head coach Stephen Hart describes the full back as a lively defender with energy and potential.
"He's very dynamic, he's solid defensively and his main quality is his ability to get forward, he's a very modern full back," Hart said. "In the games I've seen him play he's contributed goals and assists which gives a different dimension to us."
Born in Israel with parents from Congo, Kinumbe grew up in Sherbrooke, Quebec where his family moved when he was two.
He emerged as a top young prospect while playing with local club Panellinios, where he caught the eye of Montreal Impact in a showcase.
The full back played two seasons for the U 19 group at the Impact academy program, before moving to Ottawa Fury where he played three times in the USL.
He returned to the senior team of Montreal Impact where he played one MLS match against Seattle Sounders.
While developing as a young pro Kinumbe also represented his country in some significant matches.
He was a part of Canada's U 23 team in the 2018 Toulon tournament where he played all four matches.
He was also named to the Canadian U 20 squad for the 2018 CONCACAF U 20 championship.
"Those were really good experiences for me and I played most of the games," Kinumbe said.
Seeing him as a player with a bright future in the game the Wanderers are signing him to a multi-year deal.
Kinumbe becomes the thirteenth confirmed member of Stephen Hart's squad for the 2020 Canadian Premier League season.
