
Walters Leads 1-Hitter of Lexington

KANNAPOLIS, N.C. (May 17, 2012) -- Blair Walters took a no hitter into the sixth inning, and the Intimidators scored five early runs as Kannapolis 1-hit the Lexington Legends in a 5-0 win on Thursday night at in front of 1,838 at CMC-NorthEast Stadium.
Walters (2-2) struck out nine batters while walking none over seven scoreless innings to earn the win. After plunking the first batter of the second inning, Walters retired 14 straight Legends until Delino DeShields Jr singled with two outs in the sixth inning. Overall Walters retired 21 of the 23 batters faced. Bryan Blough tossed a pair of hitless innings to finish the game for Kannapolis. The one hit by Lexington is the fewest allowed by the Intimidators since a combined no-hitter of Hickory on August 20, 2010.
Kannapolis struck in the home half of the second inning on back-to-back doubles by Rangel Ravelo and Leighton Pangilinan for a 1-0 lead. The Intimidators pulled away with four more runs in the third inning.
Garis Pena led off the bottom of the third with a single. Two batters later, four straight Intimidators singled as Grant Buckner, Kevan Smith, Mark Haddow and Ravelo beat up Lexington starter Nick Tropeano (2-3), who took the loss allowing five runs on 10 hits in six innings. Tropeano struck out eight with no walks.
The Intimidators continue this four-game series against the Lexington Legends on Friday as Kannapolis left-hander Scott Snodgress (1-1, 4.29) faces Lexington's right-hander Luis Ordosgoitti.
