Kids will learn the aspects of the indoor game from Rochester native Joe Walters. The seven-year pro is off to a career-best start after winning his third straight Champion's Cup in 2014. In college, Walters was a four-time All-American at the University of Maryland. He is a strong proponent of learning both the indoor and outdoor game.
"I am a big believer in learning the box game. The way that field lacrosse has developed, a lot of colleges, and especially pro teams, are adapting a more hybrid mix of box and field skill sets," said Walters. "If you look across the Division I landscape, a lot of teams have kids from Canada on their team because they offer that box lacrosse skill set. Our goal is to teach kids box lacrosse and to open their eyes and turn them on to the box game. I feel like I am a pretty good example of a field lacrosse player who has learned box lacrosse, and seen the benefits of learning both brands of lacrosse and how it can help your game."
Hall, who hails from Vancouver, will also lend his expertise to the camp. The eight-year pro won a Champion's Cup with the Knighthawks in 2012 and was the winner of the 2011 NLL Sportsmanship Award . The former first overall pick was a two-time All-American at the University of Delaware. In 2014, Hall was a member of gold-medal winning Team Canada at the FIL World Lacrosse Championships. Kids will benefit from his wealth of knowledge at the Box Lacrosse Clinic.
"Box lacrosse is what I grew up playing," said Hall. "I only played a handful of field games before getting to Delaware. You learn different skills playing indoor and it made me a unique player in the NCAA. I think every player, regardless of position, should try it. It makes you a better overall player and the reps you get can't be simulated by simply practicing field or at least won't be as fun!"
