Pensacola Blue Wahoos News Release
The Blue Wahoos return to Pensacola Bayfront Stadium tonight with a full slate of action in their series opener against the Jacksonville Suns. The Fish will be wearing special jerseys tonight as part of Autism Awareness Night, with the jerseys being auctioned off during the game to benefit Autism Pensacola. In addition, Gulf Breeze High School graduate and current Seattle Seahawks wide receiver Doug Baldwin will be on hand to throw out a first pitch and the team has also announce a new Blue Wahoos Happy Hour for early arriving fans.
The auction for the jerseys will begin when gates open at 5:00 p.m. this evening, with silent bidding lasting until the fifth inning. After that point, the bidding will then turn into a live auction during the sixth inning for each individual jersey. The winning bidders will be able to go on the field immediately after the contest and receive their jersey from the corresponding player.
Signed as a free agent in 2011, Doug Baldwin led the Seattle Seahawks in receptions (51), receiving yards (788) and touchdown receptions in his rookie season after graduating from Stanford University. The 23-year-old led the Cardinal in 2010 with 58 catches and 857 yards while catching nine touchdowns from this past year's top overall pick Andrew Luck.
The team has also announced the addition of Blue Wahoos Happy Hour for the remainder of the season, rewarding fans for showing up to the stadium. For the first hour after gates open (5:30-6:30pm weekday games, 5:00-6:00pm Saturday and 2:30-3:30 Sundays), fans can take advantage of food and drink specials, with small drinks costing just $2, while a burger basket will cost only $5. The specials will be available in both the Port Side and Starboard Side Grilles on the concourse.
First pitch for tonight's game is scheduled for 6:30 p.m., with RHP Kyle Lotzkar slated to throw for Pensacola, while Jacksonville is expected to give the nod to Bryan Evans. Fans will be treated to a post-game fireworks show presented by Pepsi, while the stadium will also have a "Top Gun" theme, with fans encouraged to dress in their aviation attire to the contest.
Tickets for tonight's game are sold out, but fans are encouraged to continue checking TicketShare, as spots may open up. Great seats are also still available for the remainder of the homestand from Sunday until Tuesday and can be purchased online at BlueWahoos.com or at the Dodge Pickup Window at the front of the bayfront stadium.
The Pensacola Blue Wahoos are the Double-A affiliate of the Cincinnati Reds. The team's inaugural 2012 season is underway but it's not too late to book 2012 group outings. Mini plans and single-game tickets are still available by calling (850) 934-8444 or online.
