Jackson Generals News Release
PENSACOLA, FL - Pensacola starter Jon Moscot tossed seven shutout innings as the Blue Wahoos (19-29/50-68) defeated the Generals (21-26/52-64) for the second straight night. 5-1 at Bayfront Stadium. Moscot (7-10, 3.14) got the win allowing just three hits and struck out three. The Generals committed two costly errors Friday night, leading to two of the Wahoos' five runs. Pensacola leads the current series now 2-1.
Jackson ended the night with seven hits, but four of those were in the eighth inning against Pensacola reliever Carlos Gonzalez. The Generals were led in the hit department by Dario Pizzano (2x4) as he earned his ninth two-hit game in a Jackson uniform.
The Blue Wahoos scored first for the third night in a row as Seth Mejias-Brean became the first batter to reach base safely with his third home run of the season in the second inning. It was a solo shot and gave his team the early 1-0 lead.
Pensacola added to their lead an inning later and for the second night in a row it was because of help from the Generals. An error by Kevin Rivers (1x4, R) on a fly ball to center allowed Devin Lohman and Yorman Rodriguez to score to increase the lead to 3-0.
In the fourth the Jackson's defense allowed another run for the Blue Wahoos as Pat Kivlehan's (0x4) errant throw to first allowed Bryson Smith to cross the plate and make it 4-0 Pensacola.
The fourth inning begat another Wahoo run as Mejias-Brean picked up his second RBI of the contest with a base hit that scored Ray Chang and it was all Pensacola 5-0 after five innings.
Jackson earned their first run of the night just one inning earlier than they did on Thursday. Rivers led off the eighth with a double, moved to third on a wild pitch and scored on a Steve Baron (1x4, RBI) single to cut the lead to 5-1. The Generals loaded the bases with two outs in the inning, but Ben Klimesh struck out Kivlehan to end the threat.
Stephen Landazuri (6-4, 3.45) dropped his second start in a row for the first time this season as he allowed five runs, just two earned, on five hits over five innings of work.
Jackson's bullpen was perfect as Moises Hernandez (0-5, 5.33) and Nick Hill (1-1, 6.43) retired all nine batters they faced in 3.0 combined innings and Hernandez struck out four of the six he faced in the sixth and seventh.
The Generals will try to avoid a series loss on Saturday night in Pensacola. Jackson will send 19-year-old Victor Sanchez (6-4, 3.62) to the mound against Reds' top prospect Robert Stephenson (5-8, 4.29) for Pensacola. The game will begin at 6:30 p.m. and can be heard on 96.5 ESPN, TuneIn Radio and jacksongeneralsbaseball.com.
