GF DROPS BREWERS

The Voyagers wrapped up their season series with Helena with a 6-2 win Sunday at Kindrick Field. Great Falls took the lead right away, scoring three in the first with RBIs from Mason Robbins and Zach Fish. Helena got two to answer in the bottom of the first but then went quiet. Voyager starter Brian Clark settled in after the first, and gave up two hits and a walk over his final four innings. Great Falls added three runs in the third, as a Helena error opened the door for three unearned two-out runs. With the win, the Voyagers finish up with an 11-5 record against the Brewers in 2014.

PITCHING DOMINANT

Brian Clark retired the final eight he faced Sunday before turning things over to the bullpen. In relief of the southpaw, righties Charlie Sharrer and David Trexler continued the run, extending the run of consecutive Brewers retired to 19 before an Alan Sharkey single in the ninth inning.

TURNING THE PAGE

Great Falls will be happy to see the calendar turning to September, as the month of August was the worst month record-wise for the Voyagers so far in 2014. August is the only month that has seen Great Falls turn in a record below   .500 (13-15). For the month, the Voyagers hit .273 as a club, led by Hunter Jones who hit .328 in 16 games with three homers. On the pitching side of things, Great Falls turned in a 3.97 ERA as a group during August, led by starter Luis Martinez. The 19-year old Venezuelan went 2-1 during the month with a 1.42 ERA in 25.1 innings across five starts.

NEXT UP: BILLINGS

Over the next two days, the Voyagers will face the Northern Division second half champion Billings Mustangs in a preview of the Northern Division Championship Series which will start Friday at Dehler Park. The teams have split the first 14 meetings with seven wins apiece.
