VOYAGERS BLANK BILLINGS

For the second straight year, Great Falls began the second half with a shutout of the Mustangs at Dehler Park, blanking Billings 3-0 Tuesday night. The Voyagers grabbed the lead early, as Jake Jarvis tripled with one out in the first, then scored on an error. The score stayed 1-0 until the seventh, when Zach Fish hit his league-leading ninth home run of the year. Great Falls then added one more insurance run on an Antonio Rodriguez RBI double in the ninth. The three runs were plenty for the Voyager staff, led by righty starter Brandon Magallones, who gave up just one hit in a career-high five innings to earn his first win as a starter. Behind Magallones, Alex Katz and Danny Dopico each worked a pair of scoreless innings to cap the Voyagers first shutout of the 2015 season. The shutout also lowered the Great Falls staff's season earned run average to 4.46, the lowest in the Pioneer League. The win for Great Falls snapped a five-game losing streak, which had been the longest of the season thus far for the Voyagers. The win also breaks a seven-game losing streak for Great Falls at Dehler Park.

MAGNIFICENT MAGALLONES

Right-hander Brandon Magallones earned his first win as a starter in the pros Tuesday night, working a career-high five scoreless innings and allowing just one hit. The former Northwestern Wildcat has now worked two scoreless outings in a row, both against the Mustangs. In those two starts, the righty has worked a total of nine innings, allowing five hits and striking out seven. The Manhattan, Ill., native's outing lowered Great Falls starters' ERA to 3.34, and the overall team earned for average to 4.46, the lowest team ERA in the league.

END OF THE ROAD

Today's series finale between Great Falls and Billings at Dehler Park marks the end of the Voyagers seven games in six days road trip. It has been a rough trip so far, as the Voyagers lost the first five games of the trip, including a three-game sweep in Missoula, and a brooming by the Mustangs in Sunday's twin bill. The Voyagers will return to Centene Stadium Thursday night, as they begin a four-game set against the Helena Brewers which will lead into next week's All-Star break.
