
Vote for the Kernels Summer Reading Program in the Pepsi Refresh Project

Cedar Rapids, IA - The Kernels Summer Reading Program has been selected as a candidate for the Pepsi Refresh Project, which provides grants to worthy causes in support of the community.
The Kernels Summer Reading Program begins its 14th year in 2012. The program has grown to reach 58 elementary schools in the communities of Alburnett, Amana, Atkins, Cedar Rapids, Center Point, Hiawatha, Iowa City, Marion, Newhall, North Liberty, Norway, Solon, Robins, and Urbana. A record number of 3,700 children participated in the Summer Reading Program in 2011.
The Kernels Summer Reading Program is in contention to receive a $5,000 education grant from the Pepsi Refresh Project, which will be used to expand the growing reading program and offer prizes to thousands of readers each spring and summer.
The Pepsi Refresh cause with the most votes by November 30, 2011 will be awarded the education grant. Fans can help support the Kernels Summer Reading Program in two different ways:
1. Vote on-line at www.refresheverything.com/kernelssummerreadingprogram, or 2. Text your vote to PEPSI (73774) with the message 109243
Fans may vote up to five times each day for Pepsi Refresh Projects, but only twice (on-line and text) for the Kernels Summer Reading Program.
The Cedar Rapids Kernels begin the 2012 Midwest League season on Thursday, April 5 at Wisconsin and open their 11th season in Perfect Game Field at Veterans Memorial Stadium on Monday, April 9 against the Clinton Lumber Kings at 6:35 pm. Season ticket packages and 10-game 'Anytime' coupon books are available by calling the Kernels main office at (319) 363-3887 between the hours of 9 am and 5 pm, Monday through Friday. Individual game tickets go on sale Monday, March 19 at 10 am in the Kernels Ticket Office or on-line at www.kernels.com .
