Vosejpka Strikes Twice as Wildcats Down Odessa

WICHITA FALLS, Texas - Two goals from Will Vosejpka led the Wildcats to a 4-2 win against the Odessa Jackalopes on Friday night.
The two goals for Vosejpka marked first multi-point outing of the season, as well as the first multi-goal game of his Wildcat-career. Kyle Bauman also had a strong night, picking up two assists, while Max Reisinger and Colin Staub both potted goals in the contest.
Odessa opened the scoring early in the first on a well-executed odd-man rush. Connor Thie picked up the puck in the neutral ice, gained the zone and centered for Mathieu Briand, who buried it past David Zevnik.
The Wildcats equalized four minutes later. Bauman won an offensive-zone faceoff to Vosejpka, whose shot wound through traffic and beat the Jackalopes' goaltender to make it 1-1.
Wichita Falls came out red-hot to start the second period and controlled play throughout, scoring twice in the first 3:06. The Wildcats outshot Odessa in the second period, 22-9.
First, it was Reisinger picking up his fourth tally of the year. Ben Kucera grabbed a loose puck and circled behind the net, feeding to Reisinger to pound home from an acute angle at 2:13 of the period.
Less than a minute later, the lead was 3-1. Jack Kelly, playing in his first game at Kay Yeager Coliseum, grabbed the puck at the point and threw it towards the cage for Colin Staub to deflect home. It was Staub's third goal of the season, with Kelly and Matt Koch picking up the helpers to earn their first points in the North American Hockey League.
Odessa made it 3-2 on the power play shortly after, with Lukas Laub putting home the rebound from Connor Chambers' point blast at 4:05 of the second.
The Wildcats regained their two-goal advantage at 12:01 of the second, and again it was Bauman and Vosejpka who combined for the goal. Bauman stickhandled his way through three defenders and found some space in front of the net. His backhand effort was saved, but Vosejpka was there to slam the loose puck into the net for his second of the night to make it 4-2.
The Jackalopes tried unsuccessfully to mount a third-period charge, but Wichita Falls saw out the third period comfortably to claim the victory.
The Wildcats and Jackalopes will meet again on Saturday at the Kay Yeager Coliseum, with puck drop scheduled for 7:05 p.m. Saturday is Pink at the Rink night, with an in-game silent auction for the Wildcats' special-edition pink sweaters taking place throughout the evening. Proceeds will go to benefit the Susan G. Komen Foundation.
