The gauntlets have been thrown down! It's ON! The New Orleans VooDoo have been challenged by the PlayNOLA All-Stars to a friendly game of FLAG FOOTBALL! Here's the best part: The KIDS are the winners!
On Friday, January 27, PlayNOLA's best will take on the New Orleans VooDoo in a 7-on-7 "Preauxs versus Jeauxs" flag football game in Pan American Stadium at 7 p.m. Tickets are $10 per person, and all proceeds will benefit both Ella Dolhonde Elementary School and Each One Save One.
With the purchase of a ticket for the Preauxs versus Jeauxs flag football game, The VooDoo will offer a "buy one, get one free" voucher for its 2012 season opener on March 18, against the Philadelphia Soul. In addition, PlayNOLA will offer a $10 coupon to cover league fees.
"We aim to be good community partners and work within our community to make New Orleans and Greater New Orleans a better place, and it all starts with the youth," said Brandon Rizzuto, Director of Media and Public Relations for the New Orleans VooDoo.
Ella Dolhonde Elementary School, located at 219 Severn Avenue in Metairie, recently built a new library, but the majority of the bookshelves remain empty. To assist with this effort, The VooDoo will donate its share of the proceeds to help purchase books for all students that attend Ella Dolhonde.
"We are thrilled to have been adopted by the New Orleans VooDoo and PlayNOLA to help us put books on the shelves in our library," said Mathilde J. Wimberly, principal of Ella Dolhonde Elementary School. "We are very gracious for the assistance, and look forward to the event."
Each One Save One is a mentoring program that assists in guiding children in the New Orleans Metro area. PlayNOLA will donate its portion of the proceeds to help purchase equipment needed for the mentoring program and is currently involved with numerous schools across the New Orleans metro area, including Ella Dolhonde.
In addition to the charity game, the VooDoo Dolls will play a flag football game prior to the main event. The Dolls will be divided into two teams with celebrity players and a few teachers from Ella Dolhonde Elementary School.
"It is exciting to start our 2012 year by showcasing this year's VooDoo players and VooDoo Dolls for this great cause. The VooDoo season is right around the corner and our fans are in for a real treat with a lot of talent and new attitude. That new attitude is prevalent and is shown in the team's willingness to participate in this great cause," said Jon Norris, Vice President/General Manager.
