VooDoo to Face Talons Saturday

NEW ORLEANS (May 14, 2014) - The New Orleans VooDoo (1-6) wrap up their three-game road swing with a visit to San Antonio to take on the Talons this Saturday night.

The VooDoo are hoping to take advantage of a Talons team that has slipped to 1-7 nearing the midpoint of the 2014 season. The VooDoo is also hoping to avenge a 68-33 home loss to the Talons three weeks ago.

VooDoo quarterback Kurt Rocco continues to lead the way with 1,358 total passing yards and 28 touchdown passes this season. Rocco had ups and downs in last week's game at Philadelphia. He threw a season-high eight touchdowns, but he also threw a season-high four interceptions. Last week, receiver Dwayne Eley had his best game since being assigned to the VooDoo. Eley hauled in a team-leading nine receptions for 119 yards. L.J. Castile caught six passes last week and a season-high five touchdowns. He leads the receiving corps with 48 catches for 643 yards. Larry Beavers is not too far behind with 38 total receptions. The VooDoo are also tied at the top of the league with 18 rushing touchdowns.

For the Talons, quarterback Shane Boyd will get his second look at the VooDoo. Boyd leads San Antonio with 1,319 yards and 23 touchdowns. Boyd threw for 323 yards and five touchdowns in last week's loss to Iowa. Receiver P.J. Berry had a breakout game against Iowa with seven receptions for 121 yards and two touchdowns. D.J. Stephens is the Talons' leading pass catcher and second in the league with 60 receptions for 870 yards and 17 touchdowns. Fullback Mykel Benson is the league's second ranked rusher with 128 yards.

Defensive back Cameron McGlenn continues to have a good year in the defensive backfield for New Orleans. McGlenn leads the VooDoo with five interceptions. He is currently tied for fifth in the AFL. Lineman/linebacker Mike Alston leads the VooDoo defense with four sacks, and lineman Xavier Brown has three.

Talons defensive back Kelvin Rodgers anchors a secondary that is tied for third in the league with 14. Rodgers' six interceptions is also third in the AFL. Defensive back Kyle Whitehurst has recorded three interceptions so far this season Lineman Paul Griffin is the team's sack leader with three.

Eley and Beavers also had busy nights in the return game last week. Both each returned the ball five times. Beavers led with a season-high 129 yards, while Eley recorded 109 yards. Beavers is eighth in the league with 472 yards. Berry had a similarly prolific kick return game last week as he touched the ball five times for a season-high 155 yards. Stephens leads that category for the Talons and is seventh in the league with 534 yards.

Saturday night's game at the Alamodome is set for 7 p.m. local time. Fans can watch a live stream of the game on WatchESPN, and fans can also listen on WRNO 99.5-FM. The VooDoo will return home on May 24 as they host the Iowa Barnstormers.
