VooDoo plans fun-filled experience for Friday's game

February 23, 2005 - Arena Football League (1987-2008) (AFL I)
New Orleans VooDoo News Release

When the New Orleans VooDoo faces off against the Tampa Bay Storm on Friday, February 25 at the New Orleans Arena, fans can expect an exciting, interactive experience leading up to the game through its conclusion.

The 3-1 VooDoo will be facing the 2-1 Storm in an important Southern Division matchup in a hotly contested division where four of the five teams have only one loss. Following three straight victories, including an impressive 61-47 win over the Philadelphia Soul before a crowd of 15,169 on Sunday at the Graveyard, the VooDoo currently stand in a first place tie in the Southern Division with the Georgia Force and the Orlando Predators. In a show of respect around the league, they have moved into first place in the league's "Power Poll" and the Arena Football Writers Association "Top 8" poll.

In addition to the emerging rivalry between the two teams, the fans are guaranteed to be treated to another shootout on the field as the game will feature another matchup of the two top rated quarterbacks in the Arena Football League in New Orleans' Andy Kelly and Tampa Bay signal caller Shane Stafford.

Kelly has completed 122-of-174 passes for 1,288 yards with 27 touchdown passes and two interceptions this season. He is currently ranked first in the AFL in passer rating (125.4) and tied for first in touchdown passes with Philadelphia's Tony Graziani, last week's opponent. Kelly has been named the AFL's Offensive Player of the Week for two of the season's four weeks and is a strong candidate for the league's Player of the Month honors in leading the VooDoo to an undefeated February leading up to Friday's game.

One of the Arena Football League's all-time leading passers, Kelly currently holds the AFL career passing records for completions (2985), attempts (4845) and passing yards (33,321) and is second all-time in touchdown passes (647), training New York's Aaron Garcia by two. Kelly has started 123 consecutive games, the all-time record for consecutive starts by a quarterback.

Stafford is currently the AFL's second rated passer behind Kelly with a 122.6 rating and has completed 72-of-109 passes for 792 yards with 17 touchdown passes and one interception.

There will be plenty of excitement for VooDoo fans off the field as well, while they try to improve on their 3-1 record. VooDoo fans will be able to get $1 beers as part of a "Pre-Game Party" promotion by the Girod Street entrance to the New Orleans Arena from 5-7 p.m. on Friday. ADT and Bayou 105.3 will be the game sponsors. Fans will also receive a complimentary game program upon entering the arena. Following every home game, all VooDoo players, coaches and VooDoo Dolls will remain on the field to sign autographs for the fans. Fans are encouraged to come onto the field after the game and meet the members of the New Orleans VooDoo.

Plenty of tickets remain for Friday's game with several pricing and seating options available. The VooDoo has a special promotion available for this game, where for $19, fans will be able to purchase an upper level seat and also receive an embroidered VooDoo baseball cap...a $30 value.

The game will be broadcast live regionally on Cox Sports Television at 7 pm CT. Todd Kalas will handle play by play, New Orleans Saints wide receiver Donte' Stallworth will serve as a guest color analyst and Tim Fanguy will be the sideline reporter. The contest can also be heard on WSMB 1350-AM. Chris Kenyon will handle play-by-play, WDSU-6 sports reporter Fletcher Mackel will serve as guest color analyst and Kenny Wilkerson will be the sideline reporter.
