New Orleans VooDoo News Release
The New Orleans VooDoo have announced the signing of four players for the 2007 season, three of whom have excelled in the af2 game and one with extensive NFL experience. The team has added DB Cory Bailey, QB Steve Bellisari, FB Jamar Martin and DB Alex Wallace.
Bailey (5-11, 195, Florida) played for the Florida Firecats of af2 in 2006, leading the league with 117.5 tackles in the regular season, the third highest total in league history. Bailey started 24 games for the University of Florida from 2001-04.
Bellisari (6-3, 225, Ohio State) was the starting quarterback for the Manchester Wolves of af2 this season, after spending part of 2006 on the practice squad of the Kansas City Brigade as a backup to current VooDoo QB Andy Kelly. He had a stellar 2006 season with the Wolves, in which he led them an impressive 5-1 record and into the second round of the playoffs, completing 81-of-123 (65.9%) passes for 984 yards and 25 touchdowns. Bellisari was drafted by the St. Louis Rams in 2002 and spent two seasons with the team.
Martin (5-11, 245, Ohio State) is a three-year NFL veteran who was originally a fourth round draft choice of the Dallas Cowboys in 2002. Martin returned from a season-ending knee injury in 2002, to serve as a key blocker for the Cowboys in 2003. Martin played for the Miami Dolphins in 2004 and went to training camp with the team in 2005. Most recently he went to training camp with the New Orleans Saints in 2006.
Wallace (5-10, 187, San Jose State) played with the af2 Bakersfield Blitz from 2005-06. He finished the 2006 season as the league leader in interceptions with 11 returns for 3 yards, as he captured the league's ADT Defensive Player of the Year honors.
"I am excited to add three players in Cory, Steve and Alex who have experienced both individual and team success in the indoor game," said Head Coach Mike Neu. "Jamar has excellent size and is a very physical player. We are excited about adding another player with NFL experience."
