
Volunteer Spotlight: Sue Coombe-Official Scorer of the Jr. Blues

Sue Coombe is responsible for the enormous task of keeping game scores, recording statistics, being responsible for the game day officials and reporting it all to the North American Hockey League on a timely basis.
Sue Coombe retired from the Illinois Department of Revenue in 2002. Sue grew up with hockey - her father Bill, who was inducted into the SYHA Hall of Fame, the Springfield Sports Hall of Fame and the Illinois Hockey Hall of Fame, helped organize Springfield Youth Hockey. Her three brother, John, Bill and Fred all player for SYHA and the Springfield Kings and continue to be involved in SYHA, High School Hockey and the Jr. Blues. Sue's son Brad played for SYHA; AAA Hockey in St. Louis, was a member of the St. Louis Pee-Wee Blues who played in the Quebec Tournament; Jr. B in Toledo, Ohio, where he was a member of the Jr. B National Championship team in 1998; the Jr. Blues and club hockey at Bowling Green State University! . Brad currently lives in Columbia, SC where he plays Senior Hockey and coaches a Pee-Wee AA team.
Sue served on the SYHA Board of Directors for 10 years, serving as President for two years. She was inducted into the SYHA Hall of Fame. She also served on the Missouri Amateur Hockey Board for two years. She is a Member of the Jr. Blues board of Directors and a member of the Game Day Committee, in charge of minor officials. She has been keeping score for the Jr. Blues since the team's inception in 1993.
The entire organization owes its existence to people like Sue Coombe. Thanks Sue!!
