HUNTSVILLE, Ala. - The Tennessee Valley Vipers continue to do no wrong at home.
The Vipers simply blew away the visiting South Georgia Wildcats and rolled to 40-point lead at halftime. From there Tennessee Valley coasted to a 54-28 victory before 3,311 fans at the Von Braun Center.
The Vipers improved to 4-2 overall and 3-0 at home with the arenafootball2 American West victory over South Georgia (5-2). The victory also avenged a 55-33 road loss to the division-leading Wildcats back on April 11.
Quarterback Kevin Eakin completed 18 of 30 passes for 212 yards and five touchdowns with one interception for the Vipers, while Darnell Kennedy went 23 of 42 for 248 with one pick and four scores for South Georgia.
Jeremy Grier paced the Vipers with 10 catches for 88 yards and a touchdown and Antwone Savage had nine for 116 and two touchdowns for the Wildcats.
The Vipers led 13-0 after the first quarter on Eakin's 12-yard toss to Larry Shipp just less than three minutes in and Travis Blanchard's 6-yard run. South Georgia got on the board via Kennedy's 12-yard pass to Alvance Robinson early in the second quarter but it was all Tennessee Valley after that.
Shipp hauled in a 40-yard touchdown pass, Chris Bocage a 19-yarder for a score and Grier - who was making his debut - added another from 5-yards out. A fumble recovery in the end zone by Demetrius Derico and 26-yard fumble recovery touchdown run closed out the dominating first half for the Vipers.
Tennessee Valley plays at Corpus Christi next Saturday before returning home May 16 to face Oklahoma City.
