
Vipers Set for Home Playoff Dates

Trailing 1-0 in the best of five North Division Championship Series the Calgary Vipers welcome the Chico Outlaws to Foothills Stadium for the remainder of the series over the weekend. The Vipers are attempting to win back-to-back Golden Baseball League Championships and also reach a League Finals for a fourth straight year. This season Calgary set a new franchise record for wins with 53 along with setting new marks with 29 road wins and a .644 winning percentage away from home. Off the field the Snakes set a new average attendance record with 1705 per game.
At the plate Medicine Hat, Alberta's Drew Miller had a dominant season leading the league in: runs batted in (94), doubles (28), extra-base hits (51), total bases (211), hit by pitches (17), and games played (88). The sixth-year Viper was also second in both home runs (21) and hits (116) along with finishing third in slugging percentage (.641). The 30-year-old was named G.B.L. Player of the Month for August and also set new single-season franchise records for home runs, runs batted in, and extra-base hits.
Jonny Kaplan also had a terrific season in his first year in Calgary finishing first in the league in runs scored (85), third in both stolen bases (28) and doubles (26), and also fourth in both triples (6) and total bases (172).
Meanwhile Kevin Price finished second in the league in on-base percentage (.485) after finishing third in both walks (53) and hit by pitches (16). Julio Ramirez also finished third in the league in home runs with 18.
On the mound Calgary was led by starter Dusty Gober who started in a league most 19 games and threw the second most innings pitched at 116.2. The first year Viper finished third in the league in wins (10) and fifth in strikeouts (88). The right-hander tied franchise records for both wins and starts.
Meanwhile closer Claudio Galva finished second in the league with 19 saves while also setting a new franchise mark in that category.
Game 2 of the N.D.C.S will be played in Calgary at Foothills Stadium against the Chico Outlaws on Friday September 10th at 7:05 PM MDT with the Outlaws as the home team after a rainout in Chico on Wednesday.
Game 3 will be played at Foothills Stadium on Saturday September 11th at 5:05 PM MDT.
If necessary Games 4 & 5 will also be played in Calgary on Sunday September 12th at 1:35 PM MDT and Monday September 13th at 7:05 PM MDT.
