Calgary Vipers News Release

The Calgary Vipers got a fantastic pitching performance from Evan Greusel and defeated the Reno Silver Sox 10-1 at Foothills Stadium in Calgary, Alberta. Greusel tossed six innings and allowed only one run on three hits while striking out five batters. The offence was sparked by a six run fourth inning where the Snakes sent 11 batters to the plate. Calgary is now 19-7 and has won five straight games.

Calgary picked up right where they left off on the road in the bottom of the first inning with a Nelson Castro single, Drew Miller walk, and Felix Jose RBI base hit for the early lead. Darryl Brinkley followed with his own RBI base knock to double the lead to 2-0.

Ryan Brown cut the lead in half for Reno in the top of the third inning with a solo homerun.

In the bottom of the third inning the Snakes hit a long ball of there own to take a 4-1 lead. Brinkley singled and Jose Morban smashed his ninth big fly of the season.

The Vipers increased their lead with a six spot in the bottom of the fourth inning for a 10-1 advantage. Jorge Mejia started the inning with a walk and was promptly tripled home by Castro. An intentional walk to Jose and Brinkley being hit by a pitch loaded the bases for Morban who walked for a run batted in. Jorge Tang followed with a RBI single, Travis Drader knocked home two with a base hit, and Mejia capped the inning with a RBI line drive double.

Greusel (5-0) has now won consecutive starts while the bullpen performance by Jon Huizinga and Robert Coello was strong on the night as well. Huizinga tossed a scoreless inning while striking out one and Coello went the final two innings of the game without giving up a tally and striking out two. Reno starter Jesse Hall (2-2) took the loss with his three innings of work.

Mejia and Miller both reached base for the 26th game consecutively to start the season while Miller extended his hitting streak to 15 games. Brinkley extended his hitting streak to 11 contests.
