Alabama Vipers News Release
Huntsville, AL- The 2008 arenafootball Champion Tennessee Valley Vipers opened their training camp for the 2009 season this past Sunday, but before hitting the gridiron, the Vipers took a little time to give back to the community that has supported them so well over the past nine seasons.
Vipers quarterbacks Kevin Eakin, and ArenaCup MVP Tony Colston recently visited Hazel Green Elementary and participated in the Read Across America program. Eakin and Colston both read books to the students that had gathered at the school, and answered questions about themselves and their careers, and signed autographs. This event is designed to instill a love of reading in the students. "I had a blast reading to the kids", said Eakin. "I think this is an important program for students, and I am happy to have been invited by Hazel Green Elementary."
Prior to the reading, parents and students participated in several activities including: purchasing books at the book fair; enjoying free popcorn; posing for pictures on the "red carpet"; and adding their handprints to the school's version of the Walk of Fame. Hazel Green Elementary Principal Lorraine Boone added that the night was a success, "We truly appreciate the celebrity readers who made this a memorable event. We are blessed to have such positive role models in our community, who take the time to read to our children."
The Vipers will continue training camp through March 22nd, with the regular season beginning March 28th with a trip to Green Bay, Wisconsin to take on the Blizzard, and will return home to host the Quad City Steamwheelers on April 4th. Vipers season tickets are on sale now by contacting the Vipers at 256-428-HISS (4477). For more information, please visit our website at www.vipersaf2.com.
