Vipers Add to Coaching Staff

The Calgary Vipers and Manager Morgan Burkhart have added to their coaching staff for the 2011 season with the hiring of Pitching Coach Bobby Post. Recently the 37-year-old spent the last two seasons as the Pitching Coach of the Sioux City Explorers in the Independent American Association. Last season Post led his pitching staff to the third best earned run average in the ten-team circuit.

Previously the Sergeant Bluff, Iowa resident spent three years as the pitching coach at Barstow Community College in California. Originally from Victorville, California the right-hander pitched for Cerritos Junior College in California before finishing up his collegiate career at the University of Nevada where he went 18-5 over two seasons with the Wolf Pack. As a professional he spent five seasons in the Independent Northern League with Sioux Falls and Sioux City before finishing his career in Taiwan with an overall record of 43-18.

Bobby and his wife Jennifer have three daughters (Alyssa, Emily, and Jayden).

Burkhart meanwhile returns for a fifth season with the team after two years as manager and two seasons as hitting coach. Last season Morgan led Calgary to its fourth consecutive playoff appearance by winning the second half north division title with a 30-15 record. Overall the Vipers finished 53-35 and set new franchise records for overall wins along with road wins (29) and winning percentage away from home (.644).

The Vipers will be holding a media conference on Monday May 9th at 12:00 pm at Foothills Stadium with all partners and friends invited.

Spring Training for the team will be held at the preseason home of the San Francisco Giants in Scottsdale, Arizona at Scottsdale Stadium starting on Saturday May 14th.

Calgary will start the 2011 regular season on the road in Yuma, Arizona on Tuesday May 24th with a double-header against Jose Canseco and the Scorpions.

The Vipers will return to Calgary and Foothills Stadium for their home opener on Thursday May 26th at 6:30 PM MDT against their Alberta rivals, the Edmonton Capitals.
