Philadelphia KiXX News Release

Philadelphia, PA, April 6, 2004 – The Major Indoor Soccer League (MISL) announced today that Philadelphia KiXX defender Mauricio Vincello has been named the League's Defensive Player of the Week for the seven-day period ending April 3. Vincello also received the weekly accolade for the seven-day period ending February 1.

Vincello solidified the Philadelphia defense, recording a combined 11 blocks in the club's two contests. The native of Salto, Argentina posted a career-high (one shy of MISL season-high) eight blocks in the team's 7-2 loss in Milwaukee on April 2, then added three blocks and a goal in the club's 5-3 victory over the Cleveland Force on April 3. The 26-year-old defender, in his first season with Philadelphia, finished the regular season with 60 total blocks, ranking second on the club behind four-time all-star Pat Morris.

The two-year veteran played with the Toronto Thunderhawks during the 2000-01 National Professional Soccer League (NPSL) campaign, before competing solely with the Toronto Lynx of the outdoor A-League for the past three seasons (2000-2003). Vincello was named the Toronto Lynx Defensive Player of the Year for his play in 2001.

Vincello and the rest of the team kick-off the 2004 Major Indoor Soccer League (MISL) Playoffs with a one-game quarterfinal match versus the fifth-seeded Kansas City Comets on Saturday, April 10. The KiXX, who have now qualified for postseason play in each of their eight years of existence, conclude the 2003-04 regular season as the top wild-card team, or fourth overall. Game-time at the Wachovia Spectrum is scheduled for 7:05 pm ET, with doors opening at 6:00 pm ET.
