EDINBURG - Vince Moore will return as field manager for the Edinburg Coyotes, after all.
It was announced on Wednesday that Moore was released from his contract as bench coach for the Shreveport-Bossier Captains to pursue managership possibilities.
On Thursday United League Baseball executives Byron Pierce and John Bryant announced he will again be field manager for the Coyotes.
This will be the fifth season as manager here, the fourth for the ULB, for the popular Moore, who began his Valley career as a player in Edinburg in 2001.
"Getting Vince back as field manager is one of the most positive moves we have been able to make since regaining the ownership of the United League Baseball," Pierce said.
"He is an asset to the ULB, to baseball, and especially to the Coyotes," Pierce said.
"It's going to be great returning to the Valley," Moore said. " I am really happy about that, I fell in love with the city and area long ago." He said he would start working on getting a team together immediately.
Moore had taken the bench coach position with the Captains several weeks ago when the future of baseball here was uncertain. However, since then, Pierce and Bryant purchased the assets of the league and the season is scheduled to begin play on June 11.
The Coyotes will open with a four-game home series with the Laredo Broncos.
Moore said he was grateful to the Captains' management action in releasing him from his American Association position, so that he could return to being a field manager.
Moore took his Edinburg team to the playoffs in the now-defunct Central League in 2005, then his clubs have made two playoff berths in three seasons in the ULB.
His 2006 ball club, the first year of the ULB, started off with 17 consecutive wins and won the ULB regular season title with a 57-33 record.
Only the 2007 club failed to make the playoffs.
Earlier in the week, it was announced that Doug Leary, who has more than 30 years experience in sports, has been named as general manager of the Coyotes.
The ULB will operate with six clubs this season: Edinburg, Harlingen, Laredo, San Angelo, Amarillo and Coastal Bend (Robstown-Corpus Christi).
