KANSAS CITY, MO -- The Kansas City Comets announced today that they had received INS approval for Nikola Vignjevic to begin play in the MISL, effective immediately. With the decision, Vignjevic will play his first game for the Comets Saturday night in San Diego.

Vignjevic is a Yugoslavian national who has permanent residence in Canada. He began his indoor career with the Cleveland Crunch in 1997, when he played in 17 games, scoring five goals and adding eight assists, for 18 points on the season.

Vignjevic found his stride the following year after being traded to the Edmonton Drillers. In 36 games, he scored a total of 28 goals and 37 assists, for 82 total points. Vignjevic also discovered he had a forte for shootouts, where he converted 67% of his tries, and finished with the third best percentage of all players.

The 1999-00 season was a breakout year for Vignjevic, as he scored a total of 166 points in 40 games, and finished seventh overall in the league for total points, third for one-point goals (31), second for assists (63) and second for shootout goals (31). He was also perfect on the penalty kick, going 5/5 on the season.

Vignjevic's last year on the turf was his best, as he scored 188 points in 41 games. He finished 11th in the league for total points, and tops overall in the league for one-point goals.

"We're incredibly excited to have Niki cleared to play," said Zoran Savic, Vice-President and Head Coach of the Comets. "He's been training for with us for two weeks, and he's ready to step into the lineup. Niki isn't just a scorer; he creates opportunities for himself and his teammates. He takes everyone around him to a higher level of play.

The league also announced today that Blair Quinn will not be eligible to play in Saturday's game in San Diego. Quinn's paperwork is still awaiting approval from USSF, which should happen early next week.

The Comets return to action on Saturday night in San Diego, as they visit the San Diego Sockers. Game time locally will be 9:05 PM, and the action can be heard live on KCKN 1340 AM. Kansas City will continue their annual seven-game road trek until November 30, when they will return to Kemper Arena to host the Cleveland Force at 8:05 PM.
