Omaha Lancers News Release
Sioux City, IA - John Keeney registered 25 saves and Ben Marshall tallied his team-leading fourth game-winning goal of the season as the Omaha Lancers outlasted the Sioux City Musketeers 3-1 Saturday evening at the Tyson Events Center. With the win, the Lancers improved to 20-10-4 on the year and maintain sole possession of third place in the Western Conference with 44 standings points. Omaha has now won four consecutive games and is 4-1 on the season against the Musketeers.
Neither side was able to find the back of the net in the opening period of play despite a combined 17 shots on goal. Lancers netminder John Keeney turned aside all 11 Sioux City shots he faced in period one while Musketeers goaltender Matt Skoff answered the six Omaha shots he faced in the first frame.
Sioux City broke the scoreless deadlock just prior to the midway point of the contest when Tim O'Brien cleaned up a rebound outside the Omaha goal crease for his eighth goal of the season. Alex Velischek grabbed the only assist on the even strength marker scored 9:17 into the second period. Omaha was quick to respond though and evened the game just 78 seconds later when Justin Crandall found Adam Chlapik in the slot for Chlapik's third goal of the year. The five-on-five tally came 10:35 into the middle period.
The Lancers grabbed the lead for good 7:19 into the final period of regulation when Ben Marshall launched a slap shot from the high slot that found daylight through the screen of Ryan Daugherty and past Skoff. Daugherty earned the only assist on Marshall's fifth marker of the season, which also served as his team-leading fourth game-winning goal of the year. After a furious push by the Musketeers in the game's final five minutes, Omaha landed the final nail in the coffin with just 44 seconds left when Seth Ambroz fired home his team-leading 15th goal of the season into an empty net. Nick Oddo garnered the only assist on the game's final strike.
Keeney earned his second consecutive victory in Sioux City after turning aside 25 of the Musketeers 26 total shots. The netminder from Twin Peaks, California is now 10-4-1 on the year and has surrendered two goals-against or fewer in eight of his last nine starts. Meanwhile, Skoff suffered the loss for Sioux City after 19 saves on 21 Omaha shots.
The Lancers are back in action this coming Wednesday evening when they return home to the Omaha Civic Auditorium to take on the Sioux Falls Stampede.
