Victoria's Shantz Named Reebok Hockey ECHL Goaltender Of The Week

PRINCETON, N.J. - David Shantz of the Victoria Salmon Kings is the Reebok Hockey ECHL Goaltender of the Week for Dec. 14-20.

The 23 year old earned his ninth career shutout and went 2-0-0 to help Victoria sweep Stockton in three games and improve to 12-13-3. Shantz allowed just three goals on 69 shots in three games for a 1.22 goals-allowed average and a.957 save percentage.

He had 27 saves in a 7-2 win on Dec. 16 and then stopped all 30 shots for his second shutout of the season in a 2-0 win on Dec. 18. He had nine saves in the first 26:57 of a 4-3 win on Dec. 19 before leaving with an injury.

Shantz leads the league with a save percentage of.927 and is tied for the league lead with two shutouts while ranking second with a goals-against average of 2.35. He has a five-game winning streak and is 8-2-3 and leads the team with eight victories.

The Burlington, Ontario native has played four seasons in the ECHL and is 47-27-11 with four shutouts, a goals-against average of 2.81 and a save percentage of.908 in 91 games with Victoria, Dayton, Elmira and Florida.

Drafted in the second round (37th overall) by the Florida Panthers in the 2004 National Hockey League Entry Draft and under contract to Abbotsford of the American Hockey League, Shantz has played 33 games in the AHL with Rochester and Abbotsford.
