Reading's Gordon Named Sher-Wood Hockey ECHL Player Of The Week

PRINCETON, N.J. - Reading Royals forward Ben Gordon is the Sher-wood Hockey ECHL Player of the Week for Dec. 14-20.

The 24 year old led the league during the week with nine points and tied for the lead with five assists and a plus-minus rating of +8 to help Reading improve to 17-9-3 and take a commanding nine-point lead in the East Division. Gordon registered his first career hat trick and tied a Royals team record with five points (3g-2a) in a 7-3 win at Johnstown on Dec. 16. He had a pair of assists in a 4-3 win against Elmira on Dec. 18 and scored the game-tying goal and assisted on the game winner in a 2-1 win at Elmira on Dec. 19.

Gordon is third in the league with 38 points and tied for fourth with 23 assists in 27 games. He has a four-game assist streak (7a) and a four-game point streak (4g-7a). He leads the Royals in goals, assists and points and is tied for the team lead with a plus-minus rating of +8 while also playing two games in the American Hockey League with Providence.

The International Falls, Minn. native split the 2008-09 season between Reading and Cincinnati and had 57 points (21g-36a) and 48 penalty minutes in 63 regular season games.

He played four seasons at the University of Minnesota and had 98 points (39g-59a) and 145 penalty minutes in 148 games from 2004 to 2008.

On behalf of Ben Gordon, a case of pucks will be donated to a Reading youth hockey organization by Sher-wood Hockey, the exclusive puck supplier of the ECHL. Since beginning its sponsorship of the award in 2000-01, Sher-wood Hockey has donated more than 23,100 pucks to youth hockey organizations in ECHL cities.
