Victoria Seals News Release
Victoria, BC - The Victoria Seals are proud announce that they will be supporting a pair of local charities at every game this season. Partnering with Alex Burns & Associates and Verico Select Mortgages, Home Runs for the Homeless returns for its second year in 2010. Joining the cause is Shields Harney, who will present K's for KidSport all year at Royal Athletic Park.
"Being part of a community is integral to a professional sports team," said Seals President Darren Parker. "Joining forces with Alex Burns, Verico and Shields Harney to present these fantastic fundraising initiatives is something we are very proud to be a part of."
Throughout the Seals regular season, $10 will be donated to the Our Place Society for every home run the club hits at Royal Athletic Park. Local realtors Alex Burns & Associates and Verico Select Mortgages will support the program in partnership with the Victoria Seals. Receiving over $800 to help end homelessness last season, Our Place is a non-profit organization offering meals and shelter to some of the Capital Region's estimated 1,000 homeless.
New to this upcoming season will be K's for KidSport, presented by Shields Harney Litigation & Dispute Resolution. The program will offer $10 to the KidSport Foundation for every strikeout a Seals pitcher records this summer. KidSport provides support to children in order to remove financial barriers that prevent them from playing organized sport.
"Shields Harney seized the opportunity presented by KidSport and the Victoria Seals organization to contribute to strengthening the link between kids, baseball, and other sports." Said Shields Harney partner Greg Harney. "Let's cheer for the Seals, and the kids, and look forward to helping our youth learn the life skills associated with participating in sport."
Funds from the brand new BC Hydro Kids Zone at Royal Athletic Park will also go towards KidSport, with a two dollar donation offering three chances to win anything from a KidSport wristband, tickets to an upcoming game, or an official Seals hat!
KidSport is also requesting volunteers to help facilitate the Kids Zone at every Seals home game in 2010. With a goal of providing 500 kids with a season of sport in 2010, a final fundraising amount of $100,000 is the benchmark.
