Victoria, BC - With the inaugural spring training camp complete at Desert Sun Stadium in Arizona, the Victoria Seals are proud to announce their 22-man opening day roster!

Featuring 10 pitchers and 12 fielders, the regular season roster was selected from 37 hopefuls during the 10-day spring training session. The lone Canadian selected is Victoria's own Graham Campbell, who played in the Victoria Mavericks senior amateur league last season. The team also features one player from Venezuela, with remaining 20 hailing from the United States.
During their time in Arizona, the Seals also played three exhibition games against the Yuma Scorpions. Tying the first contest 10-10, the Seals went on to score 28 runs and a pair of wins in the remaining two games.
"This is a team that can hit up and down the lineup. Even the players batting further down in the lineup will be dangerous at the plate," said Seals Manager Darrell Evans. "This should be the best team I've ever started the season with, at least on paper. And especially the way we played down in Yuma, this is going to be an exciting year."
The players selected for the Seals' opening day roster now make the trip north to Victoria for the team's first workout on Wednesday. Practice is scheduled from 2:00-4:00 p.m. at Royal Athletic Park (time subject to change).
Victoria will open the 2009 Golden Baseball League season with a four game series at Telus Field against the Edmonton Capitals on May 21. The team then travels to Calgary to take on the Vipers on May 25. Opening night at Royal Athletic Park will be Friday, May 29 when the Seals play host to Jose Lima and the Long Beach Armada for the first of three games.
