Victoria doubled up by Alaska, 6-3

Victoria Salmon Kings News Release


Victoria, BC - In a Wednesday night match-up the Victoria Salmon Kings and Alaska Aces met in the first game of a three-game set. Goaltender Todd Ford started in net for the Kings while the Aces countered with Jean-Phillipe Lamoureux.

The Salmon Kings tallied first with a 5-on-3 power play marker 8:41 into the first period. It would be Olivier Filion netting his fourth of the season. The Aces would answer back with their own power play marker from Cam Keith 13:31 into the frame. That would round out the scoring for the first period; the clubs would go into the second period tied 1-1.

The second stanza saw a plethora of goals. Only 25 seconds into the frame Alaska capitalized on the power play off a Colin Hemingway bank shot. Victoria would relieve Ford in net, replacing him with Jonathan Boutin. A mere nine seconds later Filion would score his second goal of the game making it 2-2. The Aces showed no signs of slowing down after the quick Kings' goal. Alaska answered back with Matt Shasby's fifth goal of the season. The Kings would continue the scoring trend, Wes Goldie finished off a passing play between Dan Gendur and Olivier Filion to tie the game at 3-3. Alaska would take the lead back when Alexandre Imbeault took the puck to the net beating Boutin. The Aces would add onto their lead with a short-side goal from Hemingway, his second of the night. Through 40 minutes the Aces led 5-3.

The Aces added an insurance marker on a 5-on-3 power play when Scott Burt deflected a point shot off his shoulder and into the Kings net. That would round up the scoring for the night. Aces 6 Salmon Kings 3.

Victoria went 2/8= 25% on the power play and Alaska ended 3/6= 50%. The Aces out shot the Salmon Kings 35-26.
