
Veteran D Patrick Wellar Returns to Alaska

ANCHORAGE, AK- The Alaska Aces are pleased to announce that defenseman Patrick Wellar will return to the club he helped win a Kelly Cup with back in 2006.
Aces head coach Rob Murray made the announcement Thursday.
Wellar, 31, spent last season with the Utah Grizzlies. Besides the Kelly Cup he won with Alaska, Wellar played for South Carolina (2009) and Reading (2013) when they won ECHL championships. Additionally, Wellar was a Calder Cup (AHL) champion with Hershey (2010).
"Patrick is a proven winner", said Murray. "His leadership is an incredible asset on and off the ice...and he's just really tough to play against".
A native of Carrot River, SK, Wellar was taken in the third round of the 2002 NHL Draft by the Washington Capitals.
With the Aces, Wellar scored 13 goals and added 20 assists for 33 points in 106 regular season games over 2 seasons.
