Keene Swamp Bats News Release
Dan Mendick hit a walk off single into left center field to give the Vermont Mountaineers a Game Two 3-2 victory over the Keene Swamp Bats in Game Two of the Western Division Finals.
Both starters pitched fantastic to get us to the final inning.
Paul Covelle, out of Franklin Pierce University, went six strong innings, surrendering six strong innings on five hits and three walks with five strikeouts along the way.
Keene jumped out in front right away off of Vermont's starter Cody Brown.
After Louisville's Zach Lucas smacked a leadoff triple to start the game, Matt Ford, Hofstra, drove him in with a RBI groundout to give the Swamp Bats a quick 1-0 lead.
Keene tacked on to its lead in the fourth on a Tommy Monnot, Kent State, sacrifice fly to make it 2-0.
Vermont responded right away with two runs of its own in the bottom half of the fourth. Chandler Brock scored on a stolen base attempt and another crossed on an error.
The score would remain 2-2 all the way until the ninth inning. After a leadoff walk advanced all the way to third with two outs, Dan Mendick sent Recreation Field wild with his single, giving Vermont the 3-2 walk off win.
The victory evens up the Western Finals at 1-1. Game Three will take place at Alumni Field on Friday night. First pitch is set for 6:30 p.m.
