BROOKLYN, NY --- Vermont is done sending New York-Penn League fans home happy in visiting ballparks as the Expos lost for the 33rd time in 37 road games this season with a 6-2 loss to the Brooklyn Cyclones Sunday evening at KeySpan Park.

The defeat was the ninth straight road loss for Vermont and dropped the Expos to 0-7 all-time at KeySpan Park. Vermont began the season with 13 straight losses on the road and finish the year by scoring just 20 runs with a 2-12 record in their final 14 games away from Centennial Field.

Matt Watson, a member of the Vermont Expos 10th Anniversary team and holder of the league record for hits in a season with 108 for Vermont in 1999, was the designated hitter for Brooklyn in the game. Watson, on a rehab assignment from the Mets Triple-A affiliate in Norfolk, was 0-for-2 with two walks and a stolen base in his first game with the Cyclones.

The Expos took a 1-0 lead in the fourth inning on an RBI single from Brad Ditter to score Kory Casto. But that lead lasted all of about four pitches as Brooklyn's Rashad Parked led off the bottom of the fourth with a triple and scored on a wild pitch from starter Nick Long.

The Cyclones took a 3-1 lead with a pair of runs in the fifth inning on an RBI double from Tony Piazza and an RBI groundout from Humerto Gonzalez as Long (3-9) allowed three runs on three hits with three walks and three strikeouts over five innings in his last start of the season for Vermont.

The Expos put together four singles in the sixth inning, but could plate just one run to cut the Brooklyn lead to 3-2. After back-to-back one-out singles from Casto and Josh Whitesell, Ditter loaded the bases with a two-out single and Lorvin Louisa had an infield single to score Casto. Danny Kahr followed with a drive to centerfield, but it was caught for the final out of the inning.

Vermont had runners on first and second with one out in the seventh when Casto lined to second base for an inning-ending double play .Then in the ninth, after the Cyclones had taken a 6-2 lead with three runs off reliever Anthony Pearson in the eighth, Casto grounded out to shortstop with the bases loaded to end the game.

Piazza was 2-for-4 with three RBI for Brooklyn, while Tanner Osberg (1-3) allowed two runs on seven hits over five innings of relief for his first win of the season and clinch a playoff spot in the New York-Penn League playoffs for the Cyclones (45-27).

Ditter was 3-for-4 with an RBI, while Whitesell and Ja'Mar Clanton both had two hits for Vermont. The Expos, who have struggled offensively all season on the road, outhit Brooklyn 10-6 in the game and had 21 hits in each of the last two road games to finish the season with a .196 road batting average.

With the road season over, Vermont (18-54) returns to Centennial Field, where 14-21 overall and 6-2 in last eight games, for three games against the Lowell Spinners to end the 2003 season. The series begins on Monday with a special Labor Day Holiday start time of 5:05 p.m. As ususal on Labor Day at Centennial, all pregnant women will be admitted for free and their will be an All-American Food Special in the Picinic Area.
