Vermont Bests Worcester in Extra-Innings

Worcester, MA - The Worcester Bravehearts fell 5-4 in an extra-innings ballgame against the Vermont Lake Monsters on Thursday. This makes the Braveheart's season record 28-14, tied with Vermont for first place in the Futures' League.

The Lake Monsters started the scoring in the first inning. Following a walk for Kyle Lodise (Augusta), Jordan Kang (Harvard) doubled to bring him home.

Vermont scored an additional run in the second, when a sacrifice fly by Jack Winnay (Wake Forest) allowed Devan Kodali (Vanderbilt) to cross the plate.

Worcester gained their first run in the bottom of the second, when William Parker (West Point) reached first on an error by the first baseman, and an additional error by the catcher allowed him to score.

Vermont tacked on an additional two runs in the fourth. Trevor Cohen (Rutgers) scored first when he reached home on a double by Winnay. Winnay then scored the second run of the inning, when a single by Lodise allowed him to score from second base. This made the score 4-1.

Worcester followed by tacking on an additional run in the seventh, when Andrew Chronister (Shippensburg) scored on an error.

In the ninth inning, the 'Hearts managed to tie the game 4-4. After bases were loaded with no outs, Micah Dean (Kansas State) grounded out, allowing Chronister to score from third. This was followed by a subsequent groundout by AJ Guindon (Wheaton), allowing Stan Zagrodnik (Wofford) to score. After an intentional walk for Tyler Bastunas (Drury), the inning reached an end when Mike Maher (Wheaton) struck out.

Vermont broke the tie in the tenth, when Cohen, upon facing Axel Johnson (Stevens), tripled to center. This brought Kyle McCausland (Middlebury) home, making the score 5-4. This remained unchanged into the bottom of the inning, giving Vermont the win.

The winning pitcher was Wyatt Cameron (Central Connecticut), who let up two hits and two runs in one inning. The save went to Sean Gamble (Minnesota State) who pitched one inning and let up zero runs and zero hits. The loss went to Toby Sheidt (Bryant), who allowed one run and one hit in just over one inning pitched.

The Bravehearts will play an evening game against the Pittsfield Suns at Fitton Field tomorrow on Friday. The game will be the annual Military Appreciation night, where admission for veterans will be free. First pitch is scheduled for 6:30 p.m.
